At-School Programs

Are you a Title 1 school teacher? We have started the Help 50 Title 1 Classrooms Meet Wildlife Up-Close fund to provide FREE programming to Wake, Durham and Orange County public schools! Fill out an application now to be considered.

At-school programs through Piedmont Wildlife Center are unforgettable!  No need to worry about travel, we come straight to your classroom/event space with no hassle.  Our at-school programs are an hour long and typically showcase 5-6 of our wildlife ambassadors.  We are able to travel up to an hour away from Piedmont Wildlife Center in Durham.

The most popular at-school option is combining the Wild Neighbors and Raptors Alive program.  This option provides a comprehensive look into North Carolina wildlife from the forest floor to the tops of trees.  When participants are in class sizes (30 participants or less) they will get the opportunity to touch some of our wildlife ambassadors, receive a collectible PWC bookmark, and ask more questions creating a more personalized experience. Teachers will also receive a set of Fast Fact Cards specific to the ambassadors in the program.

Check out how our programs fit within the NC Science Standards!

In this program, we explore the world of wildlife with a special focus on what people can do to help wild animals. In this fun, engaging experience, students will meet some of our live animal ambassadors including native North Carolina reptiles and mammals. All of our ambassadors have a story to tell and a lesson to teach us all about how we can help the wildlife in our own backyards. Our special focus will be on the needs of the native animals of the Piedmont in North Carolina.

We aim to cover these standards during our hour-long programs. Many of these concepts will be covered in the initial introduction of the animals, but teachers are encouraged to ask follow-up questions during the Q&A session if we need to further explain a concept.
