Durham County Site

Located on the corner of I-40 and Highway 54, Piedmont Wildlife Center’s Durham site is our oldest operating location. This 82 acre Durham city park is home to nature trails, our outdoor raptor enclosures, and historic buildings. It serves as our base of operations.

This park is a remnant of a 19th century plantation, and the city parks department has preserved multiple historic structures. It is imperative that we discuss this history with our staff and campers, amplify the stories of the indigenous and enslaved peoples who cared for the land, and continue learning about and examining the parks’ legacy. Please let us know if you have perspectives or resources to share - we are always interested in getting others involved in our journey.

Being our oldest location, we also have an extensive biological inventory. You’d be surprised what species we’ve found!

Address: 364 Leigh Farm Road, Durham, NC 27707
