Get ready to wiggle, explore, dance, and connect with nature. This program is in partnership with Mauri Connors, who has a background in Parent-and-Me programs at Brooklyn Forest and Boxwood Nature Center. She provides a guided experience that follows a structure that allows for individual exploration in caregiver-child pairs and also brings the whole group together to promote a contemplative dance community. We will sing, explore nature and different sensory experiences, and use creative movement exploration to grow fine and gross motor skill development.
Classes will be held on Monday, April 8th and May 13th

Meet the instructor: Mauri Connors
Mauri’s teaching aims to provide fun, challenging, and creative skills to students while honoring kids’ agency in the classroom and intentionally facilitating the classroom so that it is a collaboration between herself and the students. She takes direction from the verbal and nonverbal cues students give her before and during the class experience.
From 2017 through 2021 she taught dance at Halestone Dance Studio (Lexington, VA). She taught creative movement, modern and contemporary dance, ballet, improvisation, repertory, choreography and composition, and parent-child classes to students as young as 18 months and older than 50. She also designed and taught a variety of creative movement and modern dance classes and workshops in public schools and preschools.
Her teaching style is informed by her experiences as a forest school educator for young children, her research into developmentally appropriate practice, and her volunteer experience as a court-appointed special advocate working with young children in the family court system.
She is also included on the Virginia Commission for the Arts Teaching Artist Roster.
