ABOUT Piedmont Wildlife Center

Our Origin

Bobby Schopler was fascinated with wildlife since early childhood growing up in the Chapel Hill area. That passion grew, steered him towards veterinarian school, where he focused on wildlife medicine. This took him on paths to different parts of the world. Eventually, he came back home, and recognized a need for a wildlife hospital. So he created one.

In 2003, Bobby founded Piedmont Wildlife Center with a mission to conserve native species and nurture wilderness connections. Realizing that education is the root to helping these wild animals survive, our organization changed its focus to education and conservation. We started running youth camps and outreach programs, and got involved with an Eastern Box Turtle study.

Our Impact

Over the years, Piedmont Wildlife Center has blossomed into a community dedicated to building nature connections in all people.

Earth’s resources are limited and we must foster a sustainable relationship with nature. This starts with hands-on experiences at a young age. Through our Ambassador Animals and educational programming, we seek to connect people with nature - promoting a healthier, more sustainable future.
