Location: Leigh Farm Park
364 Leigh Farm Road, Durham, NC, 27707
Come learn how to get a fire started with natural materials, what a fire needs to be successful, and experiment with different materials to see how well, or poorly, they work. You will learn about uses of plants and different woods you find around you when it comes to fire making, what a “wet” wood is, and how to collect wood in a sustainable way. This is a great introduction to starting campfires, both at campsites and in the backcountry! This class is taught by Karen McCall, and is eligible for 2 hours of Criteria II credit for the NC Environmental Education Certification. This class is $20 per person ($10 for students with an ID) and is limited to ages 15 and up. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot!
