Woody “Charcoal” Chainmongkol
Woody “Charcoal” Chainmongkol is from Chiang Mai, Thailand and was introduced to the United States in 1998 through Seattle. He has exhibited his work in 35 states over three years. During this time Woody traveled to the New York Art Expo---the world’s premiere exhibit. He went to Florida and won first prize from the Gainesville, Florida Fine Arts Association with a portrait of his grandmother.
Woody decided to settle in Raleigh, NC and is a member of the Triangle Art Guild and the Portrait Society of America. Basketball's Jerry Stackhouse commissioned Woody to do a portrait of Stackhouse, his son and his grandfather. Another notable, Clay Aiken of “American Idol” fame, signed Woody’s portrait of Clay. Woody has represented the people in Thailand with his portrait of Prime Minister H.E.Khun Anand Panyarachun.
Woody’s technique is original in that he patiently brushes in gentle layers of charcoal dust which blend with the paper creating a lasting work that tirelessly portrays his subjects. Woody has generously donated the original bobcat painting and a share of the sale of prints to Piedmont Wildlife Center.
Reproductions published from the original work created specifically for Piedmont Wildlife Center are available for purchase.
