CIT: Teen Leadership Training Program
Youth Outdoor Leadership Training is the week of June 12 to 16, 2017.
Piedmont Wildlife Center’s Teen Leadership Training program offers an opportunity for area teens to develop leadership skills and to grow as mentors. Teens involved in this program will assist in the leadership of our camp community under the guidance of our lead counselors. Campers who are interested in this track can apply to become CITs (Counselors In Training). Note that we also have teen camps available for those who are more interested in applied skills learning, adventure and time with peers.
Requirements: CITs must be 13 years old or older. Prospective CITs write a letter explaining why they would like to become a CIT here and what experiences they may have had outdoors and/or working with kids. The letter should be submitted during on-line registration (a prompt is provided).
In addition to a letter, Prospective CITs are also required to attend either the Outdoor Leadership Camp which occurs each summer,or sign up for any other one of our camps as a CIT shadow. As a CIT shadow, they will receive mentoring from the staff and and an assessment of their readiness to be a CIT at the end of that week. The registration fee for the Outdoor Leadership Camp is $260. The registration fee to be a CIT shadow on any week is $225. (Scholarships may be available if needed.)
After the training week, if selected to be CIT, they will work alongside the counselors and serve as role models in the camp setting. They will also be eligible for promotion to higher levels of leadership in the camp community over time.
CITs remain with the camp program from 8:30am-4:30pm but they can come in as early as 8am and leave as late as 5:30.
