Counselor-in-Training Program (CIT)

Ages 13-18

Fee:            $50 per week

Weekly Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30am –3:30pm plus 1 day (TBD) until 4:00 (staff meeting) and 2 days (TBD) of extended day care 8:00am – 5:30pm.

Our Counselor-in-Training Program  (CIT) is an opportunity designed for youth aged 13-18 to acquire skills and experiences that will help them in their future plans to become a counselor, group leader or teacher.  Skills are learned through hands-on experience with small groups of children aged 4-14 and from leadership provided by the head counselor or other teacher during the regular camp session. The CIT program requires a two-week commitment.

CIT’s are part of the camp staff, take part in all staff meetings and assist staff in the set up and clean up each day of camp.  Assignments will be given during the camp sessions that include reading particular sections of books or articles, designing an activity or craft to teach the children, checking daily attendance and assisting with morning and afternoon extended camp care 2 days each week from 8:00am – 5:30pm.

Each week you will be assigned to a different age group with one of the younger groups aged 4-5, 6-7 or 8-9. Each age group will be working on a particular theme for that week and you will be asked to do some advanced reading on the theme to familiarize yourself with the information.

Your group counselor will meet with you at the end of each day to make sure you’re meeting expectations and to check in with you about any concerns or questions. At our weekly staff meetings, you will have the opportunity to make suggestions, ask questions and take part in the staff discussions.  At the end of the summer, you will receive an evaluation from your counselors and a certificate of completion.
