How to Check on a Case #

When an animal is dropped off at the PWC hospital it is immediately given a Case #. This number allows staff to keep track of a particular animal as we receive several to dozens of the same species and often in the same day. Case #s are created by using the year and the number of patients admitted consecutively. For example: Case # 06-1234 was admitted in 2006 and was the 1,234th animal to be admitted that year. Without the case number, we will not be able to give you an update.

At the time of admittance, finders are given a brochure with the Case #, species identification, and an email address listed on the front page. This allows you to keep track of the particular animal(s) you have delivered for care. Since we are a small non-profit run mostly by volunteers and receive thousands of patients each year, the PWC staff can not feasibly contact each finder personally to offer an update. It is our hope to one day have such information available directly on our website, but currently finders who wish to know the status of an animal canĀ email the hospital themselves. Please do NOTĀ call the hospital for a case checkup- using email helps keep the phone line free for emergency calls as well as gives staff more time and flexibility to give you a thorough response.

The PWC appreciates your care and willingness to help our local wildlife. We also ask for your patience when checking on a Case #. The staff's priority always remains with the care of the numerous patients currently in the hospital as well as callers with new animal emergencies. Although we greatly value your concern for a particular animal, it is for the sake of the animals that we may not be able to respond to your questions immediately.

Email us at: checkup::piedmontwildlifecenter.org (substitute an "@" symbol in our email address where we have used "::" to deter automated spam) and be sure to include the FULL Case # in the subject line or the email will bounce back to you.
