Botany Intensives
Does the forest look like a “wall of green” with many plants that you can’t tell apart? Have you wanted to get to know plants better but want guidance about where to start?
This class is a unique opportunity to meet and better understand the world of plants. It is a four part series that is created to bring you to the level that you can identify plants on your own as well as in the class setting. Our learning will involve a fun and experiential approach to help you get to know plants in a hands on manner. We will meet the plants where they grow outdoors and we will practice exercises to develop our ability to observe them in the field. We will use the book Botany In a Day as our textbook. We will get to know the plants by family and give you the key to be able to identify plants that you have never seen before. We will also explore ethnobotanical uses of plants for food and medicine but our primary focus is on getting to know plants by their physical characteristics.
Our themes will include: keeping plant journals, recognizing the major plant families, making a herbarium and tips on how to learn about plants in a hands-on way. Our classes will meet every other week and we will have homework in between each class. You will never look at plants the same way again!
